Which Saucony trail running shoe is best for you depends on your trail running goals. Saucony offers a wide range of trail running shoes, for short and long runs, for speed and for endurance runs.
The shoes in the Endorphin range are designed primarily for speed and incorporate the best foams and Speedroll technology.
A thick layer of Saucony’s top-quality PWWRUN PB foam, combined with a Carbitex carbon plate, delivers the highest energy return of any Saucony trail running shoe. A lightweight upper that wicks away water quickly makes this the best choice for both short and long trail races.
Offset: 8 mm (35 mm heel / 29 mm forefoot). | Weight: approx. 228 g for women / 255 g for men. |
The Endorphin Rift doesn’t have a carbon plate, but it does feature a comfortable, thick PWRRUN PB midsole. The upper fits snugly around your ankle like a sock, preventing grit from getting into your shoe. Thanks to Speedroll technology, you’ll enjoy a smooth transition and keep rolling effortlessly. The Endorphin Rift is suitable for both races and fast training sessions.
Offset: 4 mm (33 mm heel / 27 mm forefoot). | Weight: approx. 207 g for women / 244 g for men. |
As the name suggests, the Xodus Ultra is designed for long trail runs, right up to ultra distances. The midsole provides plenty of cushioning and support. The combination of PWRRUN PB foam and the PWRRUN frame provides extra durability and protection, complemented by the sidewalls and the wide platform.
Offset: 4 mm (36 mm heel / 30 mm forefoot). | Weight: approx. 249 g for women / 288 g for men. | Studs: 4.5 mm. |
The Peregrine 14 is a versatile trail shoe with a low heel-to-toe drop of 4 millimetres. It offers a relatively good feel for the ground, and the 5-millimetre lugs provide grip on any terrain. The Peregrine is therefore a wonderfully responsive shoe for your daily trail runs.
Offset: 4 mm (28 mm heel / 24 mm forefoot). | Weight: approx. 242 g for women / 267 g for men. | Studs: 5 mm. |
The Saucony Blaze is very similar to the Peregrine but has a slightly thicker sole. The lugs are also a little lower, which means this shoe works best on harder surfaces. It’s also a great shoe for walking, partly thanks to the slightly higher heel-to-toe drop.
Offset: 8 mm (35.5 mm heel / 27.5 mm forefoot). | Weight: approx. 224 g for women / 269 g for men. | Studs: 4 mm. |
The Saucony Aura Trail is a great shoe for anyone looking to take up trail running. The VERSARUN midsole is slightly firmer than the PWRRUN foam found in other Saucony models, but provides ample comfort for short runs or walks. The lugs are pointed so that they grip the ground effectively.
Offset: 8 mm (31 mm heel / 23 mm forefoot). | Weight: approx. 249 g for women / 272 g for men. | Studs: 4.5 mm. |
If you’re looking for a trail running shoe that’s also comfortable for running on tarmac, there’s a special trail version of the Saucony Ride. This offers the comfort of a standard running shoe, and thanks to the special outsole – which is suitable for both roads and trails – you can take them anywhere.
Offset: 8 mm (35 mm heel / 27 mm forefoot). | Weight: approx. 254 g for women / 296 g for men. | Studs: 3.5 mm. |
Trail running shoes are often used in challenging conditions. This means there’s a greater chance of your feet getting wet. Fortunately, Saucony has taken this into account in its trail collection. For example, there are special GORE-TEX versions of the Peregrine, the Ride TR and the Aura TR. The special membrane ensures that water cannot get in, whilst allowing moisture from your feet to escape.

With the right kit, as a trail runner you’ll be well prepared for a range of weather conditions. Trousers such as the Explorer Utility 6-inch Shorts (ladies / gentlemen), offer extra storage so you can take everything you need with you. You can recognise Saucony’s trail clothing by the word ‘Explorer’ in the name.
With the Saucony trail collection, you’ll be ready for all your off-road adventures. If you have any questions about any of our Saucony trail products, please contact our customer service. Our running experts will be happy to help you choose the right Saucony trail running shoes and accessories.
